The tabard was a loose garment with wide sleeves emblazoned with heraldic arms and was the successor of the earlier heraldic surcoats and jupons. Lady Verney is wearing a heraldic mantle or outer garment, also decorated with heraldic arms. The remainder of the original brass depicts their 12 children and four heraldic shields, one in each corner. |
