Margaret Bernard was the daughter and heir to John Bernard of Isleham, and the first wife of Thomas Peyton from which match the later Peytons of Isleham descended.

She is wearing a decolletee waisted gown of rich Italian brocade with cuffs and turned down collar. She wears a "butterfly" head-dress with the prayer "Lady (help) Jhu (Jesu) mercy" worked on it. She also has a very elaborate necklace and together with the open hands, indicates that this brass was made in the same workshop as several others in the area. Lady Margaret Peyton's dress is much more elaborate than the one worn by Thomas Peyton's second wife. The differentiation between the dresses of the two wives is interesting as it is used to indicate the wife through whom the property in the parish derived.
