In a charming gesture, found on a small number of monuments at this period, husband and wife are holding hands. They are standing on a grassy mount, an early example of this convention, which replaced the symbolic beasts with a small paradise garden.

Sir Edward wears a mixed armour of mail and plate. The sword belt has decorated panels, and has both the dagger (misericorde) and the sword. His widow, Elyne, is dressed as a vowess in kirtle mantle with a veil like a nun.

Sir Edward was knighted by 1376 after succeeding his brother John in 1348. He died in 1393, and the brass was presumably made shortly after for it belongs to a group made at a London workshop between 1385 and 1394.
