MONUMENTAL BRASSES

For those interested in Medieval History, a great way to learn about Medieval times is to study the Monumental Brasses that were engraved with likenesses of Medieval folk, set in stone slabs, and placed in churches and cathedrals throughout England and Europe as memorials as early as the 13th century. A popular pastime called "Brass Rubbing" came into existence during the 17th century and is still popular today as a major tourist attraction in England.

WHAT IS A BRASS RUBBING?

Brass Rubbing simply means laying a sheet of special paper on the "Monumental Brass" and rubbing the paper with treated wax until the likeness is reproduced on paper. We have 16 replicas of these monuments which we acquired from London, England. These "facsimiles" are exact in every detail to the original and outstanding rubbings can be made from them.
